2026 Youth Opera Workshop: Audition Information
Perform on stage this summer with Seagle Festival’s FREE program!
Give your child an unforgettable experience performing alongside professional Emerging Artists. Open to children aged 8–18. Includes professional vocal training, costumes, and snacks at every session.
Program facilitated by Josh Cook, Seagle Festival Director of Education and Community Engagement, and Michael Tracy, Instrumental Music Teacher at Schroon Lake Central School.
Performance Tracks
Students may audition for one or both productions. Doing both results in a very busy summer with 9 total performances.
- Dead Man Walking (Suggested Ages 8–18):
The Youth Chorus appears in the opening scene with the lead character, Sister Helen Prejean. This track offers a high-impact experience with a more manageable time commitment. - The Sound of Music (Suggested Ages 8–14):
This track focuses on the Von Trapp children. We will cast 6 Principal Roles and 3 Understudies. Understudies are an essential part of the team, learning all music and staging. This track is very involved and requires significant stage time.
Dates & Schedule
This is a tentative schedule for the entire program. Detailed schedules will be provided upon casting.
- Tuesdays & Thursdays: 3:15 PM – 4:15 PM
- Phase 1 (Schroon Lake Central School): May 12 – June 11
- Phase 2 (Seagle Festival Campus): July 7 – August 22
Evening Rehearsals: These start around late July/August.

We value our families’ busy schedules and will accommodate conflicts shared at auditions whenever possible. Please note, however, that the two weeks leading up to each production are vital for the artistic team and performers; full attendance is required for these final rehearsals and performances.
Audition Details
Wednesday, April 22 | Starting at 3:15 PM
- Singing: Every child will be asked to sing the chorus of “Do-Re-Mi” from The Sound of Music.
- Acting: Anyone auditioning for The Sound of Music will also be asked to read some lines from the script.
- Duration: Auditions take approximately 8 minutes per child.
- Registration Deadline: Tuesday, April 21 by 5:00 PM.
