Seagle Festival hires talented production staff from across the United States. These artists, designers, and technicians fully produce four productions in ten weeks. Newly hired production staff work side by side with experienced professionals, some of whom have been returning to Seagle Festival for over ten years. Technical Director (seasonal)
Seagle Festival, a 109-year-old summer training program for aspiring opera and musical theater performers, is seeking a seasonal Technical Director. Production season includes 4 main stage productions (two operas, two musicals) in a small, 175-seat house with a 26’ proscenium. Additional productions include a small touring children’s opera and several concerts and events. In-season employment dates are roughly June 1 through August 30. Start and end dates are negotiable.
Compensation offered is $850 per week plus housing – private room, shared bath- and all meals on working days. In-season work week is 6 days with 1 day off.
DUTIES INCLUDE:
- Supervision of 4-person shop staff (sets and props). Coordination with a 2-person electrics staff, 4-person costume staff, 2-person wig and makeup staff and 3-person stage management staff.
- From the Scenic Designs and drawings – price, order and supervise build of all scenic pieces.
- Work collaboratively with the Scenic Designer(s) and Directors to complete all work in a timely manner.
- Order necessary materials and supplies in a timely manner.
- Track deliveries and purchases and submit all necessary paperwork to the General Director.
- Work to ensure shows are completed within deadlines and budgets (sets and props).
- Supervise the crew to organize, construct, install, and strike each set across a busy summer season. This includes scenic artists and props artisans.
- Supervising running crews in coordination with the stage management staff.
- Work with the Lighting Designer and master electrician to schedule lighting focus and cueing.
- Ensure proper maintenance and usage of all shop equipment and tools.
- Coordinate with the costume department as needed.
- Attend and participate in production meetings during the season.
- Attend virtual meetings with senior staff and designers before the season via video conference. These meetings will be scheduled in advance and compensated accordingly outside in-season contract.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2-3 years of shop experience preferred.
- Advanced scenic construction skills preferred.
- Basic welding.
- Basic rigging.
- Knowledge of AutoCad and Vectorworks.
- Effective problem solving and time management skills with the ability to follow instructions, complete jobs from start to finish, and work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to follow health and safety standards.
- Valid driver’s license.
