Welcome

Without the music of 32 young singers’ voices ringing on Charley Hill in the months during our offseason, we knew we had to come up with something to keep the racket level high and therefore the bears away. So while there currently isn’t music of Sondheim and Rossini echoing across campus, we figured some good ole’ fashioned construction would suffice!

As some of you may already know, we are very excited about our newest addition to housing here on the hill. I know what you’re thinking: “Oh, but I loved Chipmunk so much, it had such nice old and woodsy charm!” Chipmunk was the name of a beloved faculty cabin we recently had to say goodbye to because it…well… had some structural issues to say the least. But it served us many great years and fantastic memories. And yes, we are all sad to say goodbye to Chipmunk as well. Partly because of its glorious name (Squirrel is a working name for the new building–there are naming opportunities at certain donation levels, and anyone interested in naming it can make a donation of $330,000 🙂 ) but it was definitely time for an upgrade, and we are forever grateful to our amazing donors who have helped make this new project possible. We are also thankful for Bill Christian of Advantage Building & Inspection, who is the General Contractor for Project Squirrel. Bill, a local contractor, built the Shames Rehearsal Studio (otherwise known as wifi centrum) for us, and has a long history with us. The building will be located smack-dab in the middle of the Whitehouse (our dining hall) and Treger House. The building is looking fabulous and coming along quite quickly! It will be home to coaches, tech workers, and possibly even a voice teacher or two, if they promise not to vocalize before breakfast 😉

Here’s a few photos from the construction site:

A heavy crane was brought into install the septic tank and cover – any guesses on the weight of this tank? Leave a comment with your guess!

Here’s what the building will look like when it’s finished!

All of that to say, welcome to our brand-spanking-new Seagle Music Colony Blog™ – a place to find out what’s happening on the hill! We hope you enjoy staying up to date with us!

It’s exciting hearing what’s happening and feeling a little involved! It was a nice little post and the pictures were fun too! I love hearing it being called “Squirrel”. This makes me excited for next season!
