What’s Going On in June and Beyond

We know you haven’t heard from our blog in a while, and believe us when we say we have missed you, dear followers! Now that we’re ramping up into summer, we wanted to update you on what we’ve been up to in Schroon Lake – and how we’re looking forward.

The Seagle response to the pandemic of
Racial Injustice

Seagle Music Colony’s mission is to produce the highest quality opera and musical theater showcasing exceptionally talented emerging artists, while providing career development and performance opportunities to support the resiliency of the art form. We affirm that this mission can only be accomplished in a reality where it is accepted that diversity is our strength, and in which there is the true guarantee of equal rights and opportunities for everyone, regardless of race, ethnicity, or socio-economic background. We proclaim unity with our family of former artists, staff, and constituents, both of color and not, who stand together in these difficult times to demand equal treatment and opportunity. We reaffirm our commitment to our policies and procedures that encourage and prioritize diversity in our company and the greater field of opera and musical theater. We empathize and struggle with the pain of the moment, and we know that when we work together, we can and will accomplish lasting change.

Black Lives Matter !

Please continue to follow us, on our website and our social media channels, to find out what kinds of actions Seagle Music Colony will be taking to continue our commitment to making real and lasting change for our community and the greater field.

Our plans for summer training – without gatherings

As you know, Seagle Music Colony is the oldest summer vocal training program in the U.S. Although this summer we will not be gathering our 2020 Emerging Artists in Schroon Lake, thanks to the wonders of technology, we ARE gathering them virtually. Beginning on June 23 and running through August 20, we’ll be convening the 2020 Emerging Artists every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday for an hour-long class and discussion on a range of career development topics similar to those we would have covered if they were on the hill this summer.

Some of the class topics include practical skills like strategic planning, how to best give radio and TV interviews, tips and tricks to making a good video audition (especially useful in today’s world), and singing in particular languages. Others will include discussions with special guests who are leaders in the fields of opera and musical theater providing guidance and deeper understanding of the industry to our emerging artists. And some will even provide personal reflection about what it is to be an emerging artist, how to cope with the rejection you may encounter, how to continue to believe in yourself despite these obstacles, and how to maintain strong personal relationships while balancing a career in music.

Additionally, much of our technical theater crew will also be holding training sessions with Technical Director Jim Koehnle and Director of Productions Richard Kagey to ensure they are prepared as they move into their fields.
Coordinating all these activities, and engaging our 2020 Emerging Artists and Technical Staff is an exciting new way to continue the Seagle mission of training.

Seagle Virtual Gala 2020

As you’ll see on our website home page, we’re also hard at work planning the first-ever Seagle Virtual Gala which will happen on August 1 at 7pm. We’ll be posting information regularly with more details, so stay tuned on our website and via our social media channels.
